Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, MP for Solihull West and Shirley, met with the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Simon Foster, to receive briefings on the performance and objectives of West Midlands Police.
During the meeting, Neil also received presentations from the Chief Constable, the Chief Finance Officer, the Director of the Violence Reduction Partnership and the Chief Executive of the PCC’s Office.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP said:
I’d like to thank West Midlands Police for bringing me up to date with the operations of the Force. There was a large focus on the Police Funding Formula and other methods to increase funding, so even more Police Officers can be recruited.
Aligning with the national uplift of 20,000 Police Officers, the performance of West Midlands Police has improved. With 999 and response wait times both significantly down, residents can get help faster in an emergency. There has also been a reduction in crime by 10% for the 2023/24 period
Moving forward, I want to see an urgent reduction in knife crime. This is a large concern to my constituents and the West Midlands suffers from high levels of this devastating act of violence. In Solihull, I am also concerned about the frequent incidents of car crime, which need pressing attention.
