Local residents Ann Bocock and Suzette Maguire have touched the hearts of the public by leading the efforts of creating a spectacular canopy of hand knitted poppies at St Alphege Church in Solihull.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, Member of Parliament for Solihull West and Shirley and former Medical Officer in the Royal Army Medical Corps, said:
The poppy canopy is a truly breathtaking mark of respect to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms. The canopy is stunning and I encourage residents to visit in the lead up to Remembrance Day.
I am most grateful to Ann and Suzette for their dedication to this project, which has received poppies from around the world. It is no small task creating a canopy of 8,000 hand knitted poppies, and I am hugely impressed by their efforts.
My wife, an enthusiast crocheter, was honoured to contribute to the display. During our meeting, on behalf of my constituents in Solihull West and Shirley, I was able to give our sincere thanks to Ann and Suzette for their outstanding work.
