On Tuesday 15th October, Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, Member of Parliament for Solihull West and Shirley, was elected as a member of the Justice Select Committee.
The Justice Committee examines the policies and spending of the Ministry of Justice (and associated public bodies). This includes courts, legal aid, prisons, probation, and the rule of law. The Committee also advises on sentencing guidelines. It cannot consider individual cases.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP said:
I am delighted to have been elected to the Justice Select Committee. Our justice system and the rule of law underpin the foundations of our democracy. Over the course of this Parliament, I look forward to working with my Committee colleagues, from across the House, on this important policy area.
