On Friday 17th January, Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, Member of Parliament for Solihull West & Shirley visited B&Q in Shirley, hosted by a representative of parent company Kingfisher PLC, to meet with local apprentices and employees.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP said:
The visit highlighted the extraordinary work the employees of B&Q in Shirley do in store and for the community. Strengthening our local economy through apprenticeship opportunities is important to me. I have made better life opportunities a key campaign of mine.
The team at B&Q in Shirley clearly take a lot of care and pride in the community they serve, and they value corporate responsibility. I was impressed to hear from Simon, Unit Manager for B&Q Shirley, that last year he led a team at Alderbrook School to construct an outdoor Sensory Garden. This now provides students with a dedicated area to relax and enjoy.
Our meeting included a range of other topics, including the challenges the sector faces; including, retail crime, increase of National Insurance Contributions, and business rates.
