Back British Farming Day is an annual event on 11th September, aimed at celebrating British farmers. The day is organised by the National Farmers Union (NFU) with the objective of highlighting the importance of agriculture and food security to the Government.
The mark the day Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP wore the wheatsheaf pin badge during Prime Minister’s Questions. Neil also visited the NFU reception in the House of Commons, where he had the opportunity to meet with farmers and representatives from the NFU based in the West Midlands to hear about the needs for the sector.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP said:
Following the Boundary changes in Solihull West and Shirley, approximately 30% of our constituency is now made up of agricultural land. Therefore, it is important that as the Member of Parliament I support our local farmers and agricultural workers.
On Back British Farming Day, I wanted to acknowledge the importance our hard-working farmers play in our nation's food security. The Government needs to back British food production, and we need policies that will allow the production of food in the countryside for many generations to come.
