Following the riots and violence in parts of the country, Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP met with Chief Superintendent Harris and Superintendent Carter to discuss plans on keeping Solihull Borough residents safe and protecting local shops and businesses.
The meeting occurred on Tuesday 6th August following gatherings both in Solihull town centre and thereafter on Hermitage Road, in neighbouring Meriden and Solihull East, on Sunday 4th August.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP said:
I am grateful to all officers, the local community, and business leaders for the calm manner in which they managed the situation on Sunday evening.
The gatherings passed off without serious incident and protocols were followed to ensure the safety of residents was prioritised.
I would like to thank the Chief Superintendent for meeting with me. I know a lot of residents across the constituency are concerned about an escalation of violence. I was reassured that Solihull Police are on standby to quickly contain any future incidents. I was reassured to hear about the resilience and capacity building in place so that should there be any disruption going forwards the local Force are in a strong position to avoid any escalation.
I strongly condemn the appalling behaviour of the rioters we have seen across the country. Any rioting and dangerous or violent behaviour will not be tolerated. Those engaging in such activity should be in no doubt that they will face the full force of the law.”
