On Friday 31st January, Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, Member of Parliament for Solihull West & Shirley, visited Thor Hammer on the Cranmore Business Park in Shirley.
Thor Hammer supply and operate in markets across the globe. The business specialises in producing hammers and mallets that provide a non-damaging striking solution for any problem where a hand operated tool is required. Thor Hammer’s products are used by a wide array of organisations, including the UK Ministry of Defence, NATO, foreign Governments, Formula One teams, as well as a plethora of engineering companies.
Thor Hammer is registered with the Made In Britain Trademark. Made In Britan is designed to unite British manufacturing sectors; helping consumers and buyers to identify products made by their members.
After visiting the warehouse, Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP said:
It was excellent to meet Steve and his team at Thor Hammer in Shirley. Their products are world renowned and I am delighted they are crafted in the local economic hub of the Cranmore Business Park.
During the visit, I was taken through the production process and saw the precision engineering involved in producing the range of hammers on offer, all of which proudly carry the ‘Made In Britain’ trademark. I even had the opportunity to have a go at building my own hammer. We had a wide ranging discussion on the challenges facing businesses as they seek to navigate the global market conditions. This included the negative impact of Labour’s Budget on the manufacturing sector. In particular, the increases in Employer National Insurance Contributions brought in as part of the Chancellor’s Budget have put growth at risk. Taken in conjunction with the Employment Rights Bill, which will only serve to stifle recruitment, and this all amounts to a real brake on economic growth and expansion.
I have repeatedly spoken up against the damaging impact of both the Budget and the Employment Rights Bill. Once again, Labour has placed ideology above pragmatism. Their plans will have a detrimental impact upon industry up and down the country, including here in Solihull West & Shirley. I will continue to raise these issues in support of our local businesses.
Steve Mason, Managing Director of Thor Hammer said:
On behalf of the team and myself, it was a pleasure to welcome Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, our Member of Parliament, to our factory, one of the last remaining British tool manufacturers. This visit provided a valuable opportunity to discuss how we can support our local area, share our company’s 100-year history, and address key challenges facing businesses like ours, including exports, the Employment Rights Bill, and the Budget. We are grateful for Neil’s support of businesses like ours in Parliament and the potential for growth within the British manufacturing sector. We also look forward to welcoming him back to our factory in the near future.
