As the new Member of Parliament for Solihull West and Shirley, I am delighted to have been asked to write a regular Westminster Diary for the Solihull Observer. I hope this diary will inform residents of the work my team and I do, whilst also highlighting the important national issues of the day.
It’s the honour of my life to have been elected as the Member of Parliament for Solihull West and Shirley. I want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who voted in the election. Whether you voted for me or not, with the campaign now behind us and the rosette put to one side, I am here to serve the entire constituency.
In my initial days in Parliament, my priority has been ensuring that constituents who were receiving assistance from the previous MP continue to receive support and high-quality service. I am in the process of setting up my office and hiring local staff. Please bear with us as we form our team. By the time this goes to the press, I will have held my first surgery. We will continue to hold regular surgeries to provide direct support to as many constituents as possible and actively reach out to all communities across Solihull West and Shirley.
Assisting local residents is at the heart of this job and additionally, I am working on several key projects in Parliament with local stakeholders to make our area an even better place to live. These will form our comprehensive plan for Solihull West and Shirley, with regular updates provided on our progress.
One major aspect of our plan is securing new investment for our local NHS. With my background as a surgeon, I am equipped to collaborate effectively with local NHS Trusts, the Government, and our community. My goals include improving the quality of care and reducing waiting times. A significant challenge is restoring A&E services at Solihull Hospital and recruiting more GPs and dentists. I am committed to this cause and will tirelessly campaign for better healthcare for our residents.
Another critical part of our plan is enhancing the future for our children. I want to ensure that no child is left behind, providing all children with the support and opportunities to thrive. Improving SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) provision locally is a key priority. I will work closely with Solihull Council to achieve this.

As Parliamentary business resumes, the King’s Speech marked the State Opening of Parliament, outlining the legislation ministers intend to pass in the coming year under the Labour Government. As a member of the Official Opposition, I will play a crucial role in holding the Government to account while advocating for your priorities in Parliament.
My commitment to you is unwavering. I will always be available to listen to your concerns, champion your needs, and strive to make Solihull West and Shirley a better place for everyone. I look forward to serving you.
