Ahead of National Apprenticeship Week, Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, Member of Parliament for Solihull West & Shirley, met with local employers and students at Solihull College and University Centre for a roundtable hosted by Springpod. Neil was encouraged by local businesses’ willingness to take on and train up apprentices.
Apprenticeships offer a pathway to a high- skilled job that contributes economically from the start. Apprentices are able to earn while they learn, gaining hands on experience and developing a network in their industry.
Since 2007, millions of young people across the country have taken on apprenticeships, helping to tackle youth unemployment and provide them with opportunities to get the skills to succeed in life.
After the meeting at Solihull College and University Centre Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP said,
Giving young people the proper training and prospects for a better future benefits everyone here in Solihull West & Shirley,
It provides young people with a good start in life, the chance to learn a trade, and the sense of purpose that comes from mastering a skillset, as well as giving our local businesses a huge boost too.
I have been speaking with businesses today where apprenticeships have helped their businesses to thrive and are now showcasing to other businesses the benefits of hiring apprentices.
At Solihull College and University Centre, I had the opportunity to speak with students who are planning their futures, and it was clear that there is a strong appetite for apprenticeships.
To celebrate the achievements of our apprentices and to promote further exciting opportunities, I am delighted to announce that on Friday, 25th April, I will be hosting my very own jobs fair.
If you are an employer looking to hire the best talent in Solihull West & Shirley, please get in touch to reserve a stand by emailing [email protected].
The location of Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP’s jobs fair and information about the exhibitors, will be made available on his website and social media pages next month.
