The UK has successfully won the bid to host the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027. Competing against bids from six cities around the world, Birmingham won the bid through its strong commitment to the welfare and recovery of serving personnel and veterans.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP said:
The Invictus Games coming to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in 2027 is a truly special occasion for our region. We will celebrate the talents of injured military personnel and veterans through challenging sporting events and competitions. The Games display the strength, courage, and spirit of the competitors whose lives have been impacted by life changing injuries.
I know first hand from my work caring for injured service personnel at University Hospitals Birmingham of their fortitude and resilience in the face of adversity. Our Armed Forces are made up of some truly remarkable individuals and it will be a huge honour to support the 2027 Games.
The Invictus Games Foundation offers a recovery pathway for those who are wounded, injured, and sick whilst serving their country. It is also an opportunity for us to thank local servicemen and women from Solihull, Shirley, the United Kingdom, and the World.
The Games will be staged at the NEC and I look forward to witnessing the incredible sporting achievements that will take place in our great region.
