On Friday 6th December, Langley School Council were joined by local MP, Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst. The Council consists of representatives from every Tutor Group across the School, with each Year having its own Year Council. The Year Councils work together to put forward ideas with the aim of improving Langley School.
As part of the visit, Neil heard about the initiatives undertaken by the Council, including the development of anti-bullying ambassadors. In addition, Neil undertook a Q&A session with pupils, answering a range of questions about his role as a member of parliament and issues affecting young people.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, Member of Parliament for Solihull West & Shirley said:
I enjoyed participating in Langley School’s highly engaging School Council, taking excellent questions and talking about how our democracy works. Earlier in the year, I joined Langley School for their excellent 50th celebrations, and I remain ever impressed by the school and how it continues to inspire the next generation.
Mrs Thorpe, Headteacher of Langley School said:
We are very grateful to Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst for giving his time so generously to visit Langley and share insights and experiences of working in parliament with our School Council representatives. We work hard to ensure that our young people are politically informed to empower them to make a positive contribution to the world as adults in the future.
