Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP understands the frustrations that a lot of constituents have been experiencing in not being able to access GP appointments in a timely manner. Ensuring constituents are able to do so is a critically important issue. The reasons underlying this problem are complex, and, along with the usability of the booking system, capacity is a significant factor.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP said:
On Thursday 15th August, I held my first meeting with the Solihull Healthcare Partnership (SHP). This was the opportunity for me to share constituents’ experiences, to press for improvements, and to scrutinise the plan for delivering better services.
The Executive at SHP presented me with a comprehensive report on their performance and plan. I was particularly pleased with the most recent statistics from May 2024. This included 50.5% of appointments taking place on the same day as requested, and 90.4% seen within 2 weeks. These figures are above both the national and regional averages. I was also shown the strategy for SHP to implement a modernised approach to general practice, including the development of a care navigation pathway.
However, there is always more to do, and I will be meeting regularly with all the healthcare providers in Solihull West and Shirley to ensure residents receive the quality of care they deserve.
Patients of SHP can join the Patient Participation Group (PPG), which allows you to share feedback and experiences directly to the Executive Management. Please find the link for further information on joining the PPG below.

The Executive also requested that where patients have concerns or complaints about the service provided, a complaint is made directly to SHP. I recommend doing so, where appropriate, to ensure they are receiving ongoing feedback on service provision issues.”
Patients of SHP can log their experiences in multiple formats:
Via their website: https://solihullhealthcarepartnership.nhs.uk/patient-feedback-2
Via email: [email protected].
In writing to Solihull Healthcare Partnership Management, Shirley Medical Centre, 8 Union Road, Shirley, Solihull, West Midlands, B90 3DT, or, in the alternative, hand delivered to any one of their surgery sites.
