Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP, the Member of Parliament for Solihull West and Shirley, has joined Parliamentary colleagues to request the scheme which waives VAT on repairs to listed places of worship to be renewed beyond its expiry this March.
Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP said:
The Listed Places of Worship (LPW) Grant Scheme is a vital measure which has enabled thousands of churches and other places of worship to be preserved for future generations.
In my constituency, the following Churches have all received grants under this scheme; St James’ Church, Our Lady of the Wayside RC Church, St Alphege Church, and Olton Friary. The scheme has resulted in these fine buildings continuing to serve the community, at a time when building costs and repairs are often substantive. With my Parliamentary colleagues, we wrote a joint letter to the Chancellor, in advance of the Budget Statement on Thursday 30th October, for her consideration to continue the LPW Grant Scheme.”
